Terms
What this site is, what it is not, and the limits of what you should rely on it for.
This is not advice
Student Loans explains published rules and does arithmetic on figures you supply. It is not financial, tax or legal advice, it is not a recommendation, and it is not a substitute for your loan servicer, your financial aid office, or a professional who knows your circumstances.
Nobody here is deciding anything about you
This site does not lend, does not broker, and does not underwrite. Nothing on it says that you qualify for a programme, that you will be approved, or that a balance will be forgiven. Only the administering body can decide any of that.
The figures are as good as the sources, and no better
Every figure is transcribed from a published source and carries the date it was checked. The rules covered here change often, and several are currently before the courts. A page that was accurate when it was written can be out of date by the time you read it. Check the date on the page, and check the source before acting on anything.
Estimates are estimates. They rest on assumptions that are stated on each page, and your servicer's figure will differ.
Liability
This site is provided as is, without warranty. Decisions you make after reading it are yours. If you find an error, tell me and it will be corrected.
Reuse
Government data reproduced here remains under its own terms, which are named on the sources page. The writing and the calculators are mine.
