Private, for profit
The sector where borrower defence and closed school discharge claims concentrate, and where the numbers deserve the most scrutiny.
- $145Institutions of this kind on this site
- $31,812Median published cost of attendance, a year
- $27,815Median net price for students receiving federal aid
- $18,057Median in-state tuition and fees
- $20,751Median debt of borrowers who completed
- $38,696Median earnings ten years after entry
Most of the closed school and borrower defence machinery on this site exists because of this sector. That is not a claim about any particular institution; it is where the claims have historically come from.
Check the completion rate and the median earnings on the institution page before the cost. A low price on a credential that does not complete or does not pay is not a saving.
In Canada, students at private for-profit institutions lose most federal grant funding from 1 August 2026.
What these medians are
Medians across the $145 institutions of this kind in the committed snapshot, computed here rather than published by anybody. A median is used rather than a mean because a handful of very expensive institutions pull an average somewhere no real student pays.
The net price figure is the Department's, and it covers first-time, full-time undergraduates receiving federal aid only. It is not the average across everybody.
